Avast Cyber Adventure Privacy Notice

The Avast Cyber Adventure (“Adventure”) is a competitive event and a CTF-like (capture the flag) competition carried out by Avast Software s.r.o., with its registered office at Pikrtova 1737/1a, Nusle, 140 00 Praha 4, Czech Republic, ID No. 02176475 (“Avast”). For the Adventure, Avast will be processing certain categories of personal data.


You register through the “Register” link provided through the Discord application. To complete a registration, you provide Avast with your name, your email address, your Discord ID and information about your background in relevant technical areas. This information is marked as “Required” and is necessary to complete the registration and participate in the Adventure. We will also process information about your social media accounts (links to your Twitter, Facebook or other social media accounts), should you choose to provide them. Provision of this data is voluntary and has no effect on your registration. Avast will process the “Required” as well as other voluntary information in order to assess your application, register you for the event and to communicate with you about the competition. The form is provided by Google forms app. We will store this data for 1 year.


If you choose that you want to be posted about news from Avast, we will use your email address to communicate with you about new Avast events and other similar events. You can unsubscribe from this communication anytime using the ‘unsubscribe’ link in every message.


During the competition we will be collecting, storing and evaluating information about the performance of teams and their individual members and results of the competition. Data processed during the event will include data and metadata about your activities and interactions during the competition, such as logs from vulnerable machines, and how you and your team complete quizzes and challenges. We process this information in order to carry out the competition itself, evaluate the results, identify the winners and award prizes. We will also use this data in order to create aggregated data and statistics concerning the competition and its performance, and to improve the competition for future installments. For these purposes we can use cookies and analytics tools.

Our websites, including the website we will be using for the purpose of hosting the competition, use cookies and Google Analytics in order to allow for and improve website functionality, and to understand how our users interact with our websites. The data we acquire from cookies may be used to determine your geographic location (via your IP address and automated geolocation techniques) or to acquire basic information about the computer, tablet, or mobile device that you use to visit us. You can disable cookies through your browser settings. We do note, however, that if you do this, you may not be able to use the full functionality of our websites. You are not allowed to disable cookies and analytics for the competition website, as the information gathered through these is needed in order to carry out the competition. Event documentation

We will be taking photos and videos of the Adventure event. We will be capturing these photos and videos for the purpose of documenting and promoting the competition based on our legitimate interests. After we evaluate the results, we will be taking pictures and videos of the highest ranking teams and their members. In case you do not wish to be featured in such pictures/videos you shall inform the photographers, decline and not participate in the photo.

By attending the event, you grant the organisers full rights to use any resulting images or videos. This might include (but is not limited to) the right to use them in printed or online publicity, websites, social media, press releases, and future event marketing materials. The materials will be available to the public globally.

Photos and videos taken during the competition will be stored and used by Avast for 1 year.

Your rights

As a data subject under applicable data protection law, you have the right to information about the processing of your personal data, the right of access to your personal data, and the right to rectification and erasure of personal data or restriction of processing. You have the right to object to the processing of your personal data as well as the right to data portability. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority.
