Avast Cyber Adventure Privacy Notice

The Avast Cyber Adventure (“Adventure”) is a competitive event carried out by Avast Software s.r.o., with its registered office at Pikrtova 1737/1a, Nusle, 140 00 Praha 4, Czech Republic, ID No. 02176475 (“Avast”). As part of the Adventure, Avast will host a CTF-like (capture the flag) competition. For the Adventure, Avast will be processing certain categories of personal data as the controller.

You register through the “Register” link. To complete a registration, you provide Avast with your name, your e-mail address and information about your background in relevant technical areas. This information is marked as “Required”. Provision of this data is voluntary. However, if you do not provide us with the information marked in the form as “Required”, you will not be able to participate. We will also process information about your social media accounts (links to your Twitter, Facebook or other social media accounts), should you choose to provide them. Provision of this data is voluntary. If you do not provide this information, it will have no effect on your registration. Avast will process the “Required” as well as other voluntary information in order to assess your application, register you for the event and to communicate with you about the competition. We will also use your email address to communicate with you about new Avast events and other similar events. During the competition we will be collecting, storing and evaluating information about the performance of teams and their individual members and results of the competition. Data processed during the event will also include additional data and metadata about how you and your team complete quizzes and challenges, such as logs from vulnerable machines, through the use of cookies and analytics. We process this information in order to carry out the competition itself, evaluate the results, identify the winners and award prizes. We will also use this data in order to create aggregated data and statistics concerning the competition and its performance, and to improve the competition for future installments.

Our websites, including the website we will be using for the purpose of hosting the competition, use cookies and Google Analytics in order to allow for and improve website functionality, and to understand how our users interact with our websites. The data we acquire from cookies may be used to determine your geographic location (via your IP address and automated geolocation techniques) or to acquire basic information about the computer, tablet, or mobile device that you use to visit us. You can disable cookies through your browser settings. We do note, however, that if you do this, you may not be able to use the full functionality of our websites. You are not allowed to disable cookies and analytics for the competition website, as the information gathered through these is needed in order to carry out the competition. We will be taking photos and videos of the event. We will be capturing these photos and videos for the purpose of documenting and promoting the competition. After we evaluate the results, we will be taking pictures and videos of the highest ranking teams and their members. As these participants will be featured in these pictures and videos, the images of such participants will only be captured if they have given their voluntary consent. You can withdraw your consent at any time. This will not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal.  

We will use pictures and videos from the competition in order to document and promote our activities and events and will be published on our website and in our social channels.  The materials will be available to the public globally.

Your personal data will be stored by Avast for up to 1 year. Photos and videos taken during the competition will be stored and used by Avast as long as they are relevant to us.

As a data subject under applicable data protection law, you have the right to information about the processing of your personal data, the right of access to your personal data, and the right to rectification and erasure of personal data or restriction of processing. You have the right to object to the processing of your personal data as well as the right to data portability. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority.
